Parish Council Print E-mail

The Parish Council consists of 5 elected parish residents supported by a paid parish clerk who is employed on a part time 4 hours a week basis.

The elections in May 2007 resulted in the 5 councillors being Derek Batty, Richard Bennett, Jim Clews, Peter Goldson and the late Janice Berry.

Residents elect the councillors to work on their behalf for the good of the whole village.
In the last year the Parish Council has been a consultee in over 50 planning applications within the parish some of which have complex issue to be considered. It is worth noting that the PC has some influence within the planning process, as a consultee on all applications within the parish but the power to decide the outcomes of applications lies exclusively with Stratford District Council.

The Parish Council set the precept for Ladbroke at £4,600, after 2 years at £4,500, at the recent meeting. This is the annual amount available to the Parish Council via Stratford DC

In the last 12 months we have been able to achieve;

  • Councillors created a newsletter, which started out in paper copy and now goes to over 50% of the village via email. This is proving to be a useful communication tool with the council also.
  • The Council, with the help from a village meeting, helped focus the efforts of SDC to do urgent remedial work on the brook to help ease flooding risks for the future of the village
  • The Council were able to get road resurfacing actioned at the bottom end of the village by the Church.
  • The Councillors maintained focus with our police authorities to remove various travellers from the edge of the village and to continue with a speed camera campaign for the village on the bypass.
  • Were successful in securing funding to develop a community based web-site to be launched in April 08.

History

The Parish Council was created by Act of Parliament in 1894, when councils were to be elected in rural areas with a population of between 200 and 300, provided a Parish Meeting decided in favour of the idea. The first PC meeting was held in 1896 and this was the origin of the Annual Parish Meeting (next one 16 April 2008).

Court records of past years show that many of the problems faced by our present Parish Council have been around for a long time. In the 17th Century William Butler was fined 6d for cutting down willows growing near his house and for removing the thorn bushes growing next to the highway (hedge) without permission. Thomas Chebsey was fined 12d for stopping a footway and hedging and ditching up the stiles so that no passenger could pass. John Smith must have been an antisocial type, for he was fined for throwing old thatch and straw into the roadway.
